Workmen's Compensation

The workers' compensation system was established to provide an expeditious administrative program to provide benefits to the injured worker as a result of an industrial accident or occupational exposure.

The benefits are to be awarded with a minimum of delay. The system provides a direct remedy to the worker and limits litigation and exposure to the employer. Recovery for the injured employee is based upon a statutory scheme enacted by the legislature which limits the employer's liability.

The injured worker is entitled to his weekly earnings for temporary disability benefits and to a statutory schedule for permanent disability benefits.

Scope Of Cover

This policy indemnifies the insured in respect of his/her legal liability under the employer’s liability legislation of Ghana and in compliance with the workmen compensation law (P.N.D.C.L 187) for personal injury, fatal or otherwise to those workmen where such injury arises out of land and in the course of their employment.

Compensation is payable in respect of

1.Death

2.Permanent Disability

3.Temporary Disability resulting in loss of hearing

4.Medical expenses

The policy could be extended to cover common law liability which will cater for the situation whereby an employee is not satisfied with the initial benefit awarded to him and decide to resort to the law court for high compensation. ·

In this case any reasonable award ordered by the court will be well covered and paid by the Insurer if the policy covers common law liability.
