GIBA Donates To Accra Psychiatric Hospital

By Research Team • Sep 25, 2018
The Ghana Insurance Brokers Association (GIBA), the umbrella body of all licensed broking firms in the country, has donated some items valued at GH¢10,000.00 to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital last week.

The items include: hospital beds; stretchers; wheel chairs; ceiling fans and food items such as bags of rice, bags of sugar, gallons of cooking oil, cartons of milk, packs of biscuits and bread.

Additionally, used clothing for male and female adults, kids, foot wears and bed sheets were also presented to the health facility.
The donation forms part of GIBA’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities which also coincided with the association’s 30th anniversary celebrations. GIBA’s team was led by its President, Madam Lena Adu-Kofie who presented the items valued over GH¢10,000.00 to the management of the hospital at a brief ceremony.

According to Madam Adu-Kofie, the donation was to reduce some of the challenges the hospital face. She also explained the role of insurance in the economy and the contributions of insurance to Ghanaians. “Insurance plays a vital role in our lives, she explained.”

The Director of Nursing Services, Mr. Emmanuel Papooe indicated that, the hospital currently houses about 400 patients on admission. He said since some of these patients came on admission, most relations have abandoned them so, they use their little resources to cater for them.

According to the Director of Nursing, “this donation has come timely, we will use these items judiciously to help the patients but as Oliver Twist, we will still ask for more.” GIBA is a trade association made up of professional insurance practitioners who give professional advice to insurance buyers. Presently, the players in that area consist of about 85 companies.
